SYNC®4A is Ford’s infotainment system that acts as a command centre for your vehicle, with many features previously controlled by hard buttons now available digitally. This has helped to declutter the digital instrument panel.
Being the command centre means that SYNC®4A allows you to delve into everything from navigation to climate controls, zone lighting, towing settings, and vehicle features. And it is clever enough to remember your last five actions allowing you to shortcut to those features you use regularly.
Thanks to the wireless versions of Apple CarPlayTM and Android AutoTM smartphone technology, connecting your compatible iPhone® or AndroidTM device is quick, easy, and cable-free. This feature lets you stow your phone out of sight, making it easier to stay focused on the road.
Pairing your smartphone to SYNC®4A is easy.
1. Make sure Bluetooth® is enabled on your smartphone.
2. Press the phone icon on your vehicle’s SYNC®4A screen.
3. Tap Add Device and follow the prompts.
4. On your device, select your vehicle.
5. A PIN code will appear on both the SYNC®4A screen and your device for you to confirm they match. You’ll be prompted to download your contacts and turn on emergency assistance.
Now, your phone is connected. Note that some Android devices may still require a cable to connect to Android Auto, so just plug in and you’ll be good to go.
Despite its size, the central touchscreen is pretty easy to navigate and is centred around two main buttons:
The Vehicle button – located at the top left of the screen
The Apps button – located in the top centre of the screen (circle with six dots)
Press this to access Vehicle Controls and Settings which allows you to deep dive into Cameras, Towing, Zone Lighting (if fitted), Off-Road Screen, Parking and Valet mode.
Pressing the Settings button (next to the Controls button) opens options for your Phone list, Driver Assistance, Connectivity, System Updates, Mobile Apps, Emergency Assistance and Ford Assistant.
Pressing the Apps button opens the Apps drawer. In here you’ll find all the main SYNC®4A apps, like the radio, phone, sketch pad and navigation. You can also find a digital, searchable version of the owner’s manual here too.
In the middle portion of the screen are your active app or feature controls.
In the bottom portion of the screen, you’ll find quick link cards to the last five apps you used, for easy access. You’ll also find the digital functions for the climate control system in the bottom section of the touchscreen.
SYNC 4 really is the central hub to controlling your vehicle. Next time you’re in your Ranger Raptor, make sure you explore all it has to offer.
