DUBAI, UAE. July 15, 2018 – With more than 40 new features and driver-assist technologies, the new generation Ford Expedition is even more comfortable during short and long modern family adventures.

Redefining the full-sized SUV segment with its all-new design inside and out, unique smart technologies, more power for drivers, and extensive driver-assist technologies, Expedition personifies class-exclusivity and best-in-class capability.

“Ford continues to build on its strong SUV leadership heritage, with the new generation 2018 Ford Expedition being the smartest, most capable and most adaptable Expedition ever,” said Crystal Worthem, Marketing director, Ford Middle East and Africa. “Active families don’t simply want a big, strong SUV to take them places; they want the journey to be as enjoyable as the destination. And Expedition gives them that.”

Of the new features in the newest Expedition, a great number contribute to Ford’s full-sized SUV earning the tag “Best-in-Class” and “Class-Exclusive”. These include best-in-class fuel economy, torque, towing capability and second and third row space, not to mention the Panoramic Vista Roof that spans two rows – a feature not offered by any competitor – BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert, which now includes class-exclusive trailer coverage, and an advanced cargo manager with an adjustable shelf behind the third row.

Expedition has been thoroughly updated with the latest must-have connectivity features, driver-assist technologies, and premium convenience amenities. Here are 10 of the best:

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go: Adaptive cruise control keeps a constant speed without having to work the brake or accelerator pedals – plus it automatically maintains a comfortable distance from vehicles ahead, once a pre-set distance has been set. Newly added stop-and-go functionality uses radar and cameras to scan the road ahead and detect slower-moving traffic travelling in the same lane. The auto-hold feature keeps the vehicle at a complete stop without the driver having to press and hold the brake pedal. If the vehicle has stopped for more than three seconds, the driver can tap the resume button or press the accelerator and the vehicle will return to its pre-set speed.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist: To operate Pro Trailer Backup Assist, the driver rotates a knob to indicate how much the system should turn the trailer, then the technology automatically steers the Expedition to turn the trailer the desired amount. The system can limit vehicle speed to enhance occupant comfort over various road surfaces. The result is less time required to back up a trailer along with added driver confidence; the technology can even help towing experts by reducing time lost to manoeuvring mistakes.

Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection: Designed to help drivers avoid or reduce the severity of frontal collisions with vehicles or pedestrians, first by way of audible and visual alerts, then with active braking if the driver does not respond in time. The system uses information collected from a windshield-mounted camera and radar located near the front bumper. If the system’s sensors detect a potential collision with a car or pedestrian in front of the vehicle, a warning appears on the windshield and an audible alert sounds. Brakes will pre-charge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness for when the driver brakes. If the driver does not take corrective action and collision is imminent, brakes may automatically apply.

Powerful and Efficient EcoBoost® Engine: Expedition comes with the most torque in its class with the second generation 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine mated to a new class-exclusive 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. Featuring a new PFDI fuel system – Port Fuel (PFI) and Direct-Injection (DI) – a dual fuel delivery system with two fuel injectors per cylinder to enhance power output, efficiency and emissions, and employing larger, twin turbochargers delivering more boost making the new Expedition exceptionally powerful with up to 400 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, contributing to both best-in-class fuel economy and best-in-class towing capability.

Terrain Management System: The 2018 Expedition’s new Terrain Management System has up to seven drive modes including a Sand Mode, and, paired with a two-speed transfer case (all four-wheel-drive models) and the rear eLSD (electronic limited-slip differential) that allows a full differential lock, offers excellent off-road capability. Modes include normal for around town driving, sport for more spirited trips, tow/haul for improved towing and hauling performance, eco for enhanced fuel economy, grass/gravel/snow for loose terrain, sand for low traction situations and mud/rut for uneven surfaces.

Enhanced Active Park Assist with Park Out: Available Enhanced Active Park Assist employs ultrasonic sensors and electric power-assisted steering, building on Ford’s parallel parking technology, and includes a system to guide the vehicle into a perpendicular parking space, while it also includes park-out assist to help drivers pull out of parallel parking spots. The system controls the steering wheel, while the driver operates the accelerator and brake pedals, and shifts the vehicle into gear.

Rotary Gear Shift: Located in the front centre console, the new standard class-exclusive rotary gear shift dial comes to Expedition with backlit PRND and M, working electronically, rather than mechanically, to shift gears. To place the vehicle into gear, the dial is turned to the desired letter, while pressing ‘M’ in the centre of the rotary dial places the vehicle into SelectShift manual mode – allowing the driver to control transmission shift points.

Room to Manoeuvre: When it comes to leg room and hip room, no one in its class does it better than Ford Expedition which boasts the most of both in second and third rows. There’s best-in-class maximum cargo room behind the third-row seats, too. Expedition’s second- and third-row seats can also be quickly folded flat with the push of a button to open up a cargo area wide enough to handle 4x8-foot sheets of plywood and other gear, depending on cargo weight and load distribution, even with the liftgate closed. Best-in-class second and third row legroom and flexible seating and storage solutions also include second-row tip-and-slide seating, providing easy access to the third row even when child seats are installed.

B&O PLAY by Harman: The 12-speaker B&O PLAY premium audio system by Harman available in Expedition has been perfected by acoustic engineers for a sound even audiophiles will appreciate. Providing those discriminating fans of high-fidelity sound systems with a rich, engaging listening experience. Featuring 12 high-performance speakers positioned and calibrated for optimal sound delivery, the system includes two ultra-performance midrange speakers and a subwoofer, and a 1,100-watt 14-channel amplifier that includes Digital Signal Processing (DSP) with 100 filters for exceptional sound quality.

SYNC® 3: Ford’s next generation of voice-activated technology, with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, has a new, easy-to-use design and features. The easy-to-read colour LCD touchscreen displays phone, audio and navigation functions. High-speed performance lets you experience quick responses to your commands. A capacitive touchscreen includes a convenient swipe feature similar to your smartphone, as well as pinch-to-zoom functionality within navigation. Voice activation, including Arabic, makes it even easier for you to check in with friends and family, and stay on top of your day. Talk with simple commands and the system responds naturally to your voice. When it’s time to recharge, wireless inductive charging capability comes via a wireless charging pad – for compatible mobile devices – located in the storage bin at the front of the centre console. Smart-charging USB ports available in every row – up to six on Platinum models – also provide a convenient spot to power up your portable devices and smartphones.
