Non-personally identifiable information includes tracking the site pages that are visited or the amount of time spent on our site.

If you visit this site using a mobile device, we collect additional non-personally identifiable information which may include the type/model of the mobile device viewing the site and the mobile device’s service provider and operating system.

Our primary goal in collecting non-personally identifiable information from you is to be able to perform site metrics that allow us to improve the functionality of the website.

7. Methods to Collect Information:

A “cookie” is a small text file that helps us in many ways to make your visit to our website more enjoyable and meaningful to you. For example, cookies avoid you having to log in every time you come back to one of our websites. They also allow us to tailor a website or advertisement to better match your interests and preferences. There are a couple different types of cookies.

A “session” cookie is stored only in your computer’s working memory (RAM) and only lasts for your browsing session. When you close all your browser’s windows, or when you shut down your computer, the session cookie disappears forever.

A “persistent” cookie is stored on your computer’s hard drive until a specified date, which could be tomorrow, next week, or 10 years from now. Persistent cookies stay on your computer until either a) they expire, b) they are overwritten with newer cookies, or c) you manually remove them. Most browsers can be configured not to accept cookies, however, this may prevent you from having access to some site functions or features.

This site may use third-party click tracking analytics tools (such as Adobe) to capture clickthrough statistics.

me.ford.com may use spotlight ads/web beacons/GIF/pixel tags which are site instrumentation tools that help us to determine, for instance, whether a page has been viewed or not and, if so, how many times. Emails or electronic newsletters we send may use tools (e.g., pixel tags or web beacons) to gather email metrics and information to improve the reader’s experience such as how many of the emails are opened, if they were printed or forwarded, the type of device (e.g., mobile or PC) from which they were opened, and the city, state, and county associated with the applicable IP address. In general, any electronic image viewed as part of a webpage, including an ad banner, can act as a web beacon.

This website may generate a “session log” when you visit our site. We use session logs to help us determine how people travel through our site. In this way, we can structure our pages so that the information most frequently visited is easier to find. By tracking page visits, we can also determine if the information we’re providing is being used. The only data gathered is the Internet Protocol (IP) address from which you came, the website that referred you, the pages you visited and the date and time of those visits.

Users may be directed to me.ford.com via banner ads or site links. Ads or site links that are placed by me.ford.com use cookies or web beacons to deliver metrics on the effectiveness of the ads or links. They do not collect personally identifiable information from the user.

Connected Vehicle Data Privacy & Protection.

Welcome to the world of Ford connectivity.

Through devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers, we connect with the world around using wireless communication technology. Your Ford connected vehicle lets you do the same!

Having a connected vehicle means that, depending on how it is equipped, your Ford can communicate wirelessly with apps on your mobile device and with us, our partners, and our service providers.

On behalf of the Middle East division, headquartered in Dubai, of Ford Motor Company, we would like to explain how the technology works.

Your Ford vehicle contains an embedded FordPass Connect modem. When you take delivery of the vehicle, the modem is connected to the cellular network and sending certain limited data to Ford Motor Company and cloud service providers (based in the USA). Examples of data sent includes basic vehicle information (e.g. VIN, model, year, serial numbers, time, etc.), diagnostics of vehicle systems (like oil life, fuel consumption, tire pressure, etc.), and information about the usage and performance of vehicles, features, and technology.

Your Ford vehicle may also be connected through Ford's SYNC, Wi-Fi, or AppLink technologies. Learn more on our website or in your owner’s manual.

About Ford

Ford Motor Company Limited is responsible for information received from your connected vehicle, and for the purposes of data protection law, is the controller.

Ford Motor Company Limited is part of the Ford Motor Company Group.

For some processing activities described here, our parent company, Ford Motor Company, takes primary responsibility and is also a controller. Where this is the case, Ford Motor Company will work with us to ensure that your personal information, and your rights in relation to it, are protected.

When we use the terms "we", "our" or "us", unless we make clear otherwise, we are referring to Ford Motor Company Limited and Ford Motor Company.

Keeping You in Control

Connected Vehicle Information is associated with your vehicle's unique identification number ('vehicle identification number' or 'VIN'), which can be linked to you as an owner or lessee, and with other vehicle component identifiers. You can find out more here, in-vehicle, in your owners' manual, or by contacting us using the details below.

You can set certain preferences for the collection of Connected Vehicle Information through the infotainment system’s settings in your vehicle. Further, you can also call the Ford Customer Relations Center to learn about other options available to you.

FordPass Connect

FordPass Connect is a cellular modem, which enables your Ford to connect to a network, much like a mobile device with a SIM card. Just like other parts of your vehicle, the cellular modem and its SIM are fitted at the factory.

Many different technologies work together to provide the convenience and latest-available content that comes with staying connected. Internet service providers or mobile network operators play a huge part in enabling much of the wireless communication we rely on.

Once connected to the network, your vehicle will send periodic alerts to us. These alerts contain a unique number, which identifies your vehicle's SIM, your vehicle's VIN, and the electronic serial number of its FordPass Connect modem.

FordPass Connect allows Connected Vehicle Information (described in more detail below) to be sent to us from your vehicle, and enables Ford Motor Company to conduct software updates to the vehicle's software and systems.

At the time of purchase of your new connected Ford, your dealer will explain to you how your vehicle operates and the available services. When you take delivery of your vehicle, you and your dealer can work together to ensure that your vehicle connectivity settings and data sharing settings are customized to your preferences.

However, connected you want to be, your SYNC system keeps you in control. You can set your preferences in vehicle, including in relation to what Connected Vehicle Information is shared with us, under Connectivity settings at any time. You can find out more about in-vehicle controls in your owners' manual.

Please note that disconnecting the vehicle or making changes to data sharing settings may impact the quality or availability of certain services.

Because the vehicle will store your connectivity preferences and any data you import, like your address book, please do not forget to do a Master Reset if you ever sell your car or buy a used vehicle equipped with FordPass Connect! Your owners' manual explains how to do this.

AppLink (if equipped)

You may be able to use AppLink to connect your mobile apps with SYNC 4 (SYNC). Your mobile device provides the data connection (so data charges may apply) and SYNC provide the infotainment integration, including voice controls (if capable).

To enable mobiles apps, SYNC requires user consent to send and receive app authorization information and updates, using the data plan associated with the connected device. The connected device sends encrypted data (such as the VIN, SYNC module serial number of other component identifier, odometer, enables app, usage statistics and debugging information) to us. When not driving, you may be able to use the settings menu to grant these group permissions individually, change a permission group status, and see the data included in each group, if equipped. When you launch an app using SYNC, the system may ask you to grant certain permissions, for example information about the vehicle, such as Vehicle Data, Driving Data, Vehicle Location, Convenience Controls, and/or Push Notifications. Please be aware that the permission selections available to you may vary based on which version of SYNC is equipped in your vehicle. You can enable all groups or none of them during the initial app permissions prompts. Please see the owner’s manual for more information. Please not that you are only prompted to grant permission the first time you use an app with SYNC. We recommend you review the terms and conditions and privacy policies for any third-party app or service to which you subscribe and/or use. We take no responsibility for apps or services provided by any third party, including their use of any data. If you choose to share information about your vehicle through your use of third-party apps or services, once you have shared the information, the third party’s terms and conditions and privacy policies (and not this Privacy Policy) apply to the shared information.

SYNC will remember your mobile device, so do not forget to do a Master Reset if you ever sell your car, or if you buy a used Ford vehicle.

If you change your mind about sharing vehicle information with a mobile app or want to stop using it with SYNC, you can always change your preferences in SYNC’s Mobile App settings in your vehicle.

How do you know if the vehicle is sharing connected vehicle information?

In vehicles fitted with a FordPass Connect modem, you may see icons displayed on the in-vehicle SYNC screen, which indicate that connected vehicle information sharing is active.

You can check the status bar on the screen your in-vehicle infotainment system for alerts and notifications, including strength of nearby Wi-Fi networks or the strength of the connection coming from your mobile device.

For example, if your vehicle is fitted with FordPass Connect and a SYNC system with in-vehicle SYNC screen:

shows that the modem is activated and that Vehicle Data is being shared.

Not every situation is the same, so be sure to know how your vehicle is equipped. You can find out what connectivity equipment is installed in your vehicle, and how to tell what data is being transmitted from your vehicle, in your owners' manual or ask your dealer.

You can also find out how to disconnect your vehicle in your owners' manual. Please note that disconnecting the vehicle, or changing data sharing settings, may impact the quality or availability of certain services.

Sharing is caring! Sharing your vehicle, or driving a shared vehicle.

If you share your vehicle with others, please tell them about the connectivity and privacy settings for your vehicle. For example, please inform passengers within the vehicle and other drivers of the vehicle that Connected Vehicle Information is being shared with us and our service providers. And, let them know they can turn off Vehicle Connectivity and the Privacy Settings in the Settings menu in the SYNC infotainment system. You are responsible for ensuring that anyone you share your vehicle with is aware of the Vehicle Connectivity and Privacy Settings and have read and understood the Ford Connected Vehicle Terms and Privacy Policy and provided their consent to our collection, use and/or disclosure of personal data when they are driving your vehicle.

Select model year vehicles include in-vehicle icons and data sharing pop-up notifications that indicate Connected Vehicle Information is being shared. Drivers and passengers with an unrecognized mobile device may see a pop-up displayed in-vehicle alerting them to the current data sharing settings. A mobile device is “recognized” if it has been paired with the SYNC infotainment system. This way if someone is new to your vehicle, or not driving it enough to pair their mobile device, the vehicle will notify them of its current data sharing settings. So don’t forget, when putting back your seat position or adjusting your mirrors, you might also need to reset your data settings. Please note that disconnecting the vehicle, or changing data sharing settings, may impact the quality or availability of certain services.

The importance of resetting your vehicle: Prior to selling or transferring ownership of the vehicle, complete a MASTER RESET (see below) to remove imported personal data like contact lists, names of paired devices and return the vehicle to the default factory settings. This is much like wiping your mobile phone memory when you upgrade to a new device. And, don’t forget to do a Master Reset when you buy a used vehicle equipped with a FordPass Connect modem.

Master Reset Instructions

A Master Reset will reset the modem settings as described above and all SYNC settings. It will erase all SYNC stored data including paired devices, phone book, call histories, and stored addresses.

A Master Reset can only be performed in vehicle and should be performed prior to transferring ownership of your vehicle.

To perform:

1. Sitting in the car, turn the vehicle on and select Settings in the feature bar at the bottom of the SYNC home screen.

2. Select General. You may need to swipe to the next screen.

3. Scroll down and select Reset.

4. Select Master Reset.

5. A message confirming that all system settings will be reset to factory defaults will appear. Select Continue.

6. The Master Reset is now complete.

Our Commitment to You

We are committed to managing your personal information, including your Connected Vehicle Information fairly and in accordance with our privacy policies and the law. Where connected vehicle information is associated with your vehicle’s VIN and linked to you, we will manage this as personal information.

You can also find out more about what information your vehicle collects and uses by consulting the owners' manual.

We will only process your personal information, including Connected Vehicle information, where we have legal grounds under applicable data protection law to do so, such as:

  • With your consent. In some cases, our use of your personal information will need your consent. Where we rely on consent to use your personal information, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time.
  • To enter into or perform our contract with you.
  • Where we believe the use of your personal information is necessary to comply with our legal obligations.
  • Where our use of your personal information is within our legitimate interests or the legitimate interests of the organization with which we have shared your personal information and we have made sure that your personal information, and your rights in relation to that information, are protected. We rely on this ground, for example, to: personalize your experience and the marketing you receive; to predict which Ford products or services could be of interest to you; manage and improve our business and our relationship with you; assess the quality of the services we and dealers provide, and the services our suppliers provide to us or on our behalf; provide over-the-air updates to vehicle systems and for troubleshooting purposes; in some instances to carry out remote diagnostics activities; develop new and improved products, services, and business and marketing strategies; conduct research; protect or defend our or another's rights or property, or to detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security, safety, or privacy issues.
  • In certain circumstances, we may need to use your personal information where we believe it necessary to comply with a legal obligation, to protect someone's safety or vital interests, or for purposes, which are in the public interest.
Connected Vehicle Information

Connected Vehicle Information is information about the performance of your vehicle, its components and parts and their status, and how your vehicle is used, including how it is driven, its location and the environment it is driven in (for example, information about the temperature outside the vehicle). It is typically associated with your vehicle’s VIN, which can be linked to you as an owner or lessee. Here are types of Connected Vehicle Information we collect and the purposes for which, where we have a legal ground to do so, they will be used.

Based on the level of connectivity you choose for your vehicle and, in some cases, your choices in relation to your Connected Vehicle Information, not all categories of Connected Vehicle Information may be collected or used for the purposes described. Ford may anonymize data and use it for any purpose.

We process Connected Vehicle Information using state-of-the art data analytics to ensure the quality of services and derive actionable insights regarding the purposes described below.

13. Interest-Based Advertising

Interest-Based Advertising is a media buy where Ford allows Facebook to set cookies, pixels, etc., on a Ford website and collect information on pages/products viewed by each visitor. Facebook can recognize which ones are Facebook members and serves advertisements on its platform on behalf of Ford and the advertisements are based on what the person viewed on the Ford site. So if the visitor to Ford’s site looked at a Mustang, they would see a Mustang advertisement. I am not sure if Facebook contracts with other third-party sites to place such advertisements on their sites. Facebook requires sufficiently prominent notice in the privacy statement that includes how to opt out of Facebook interest-based advertisements. Here is our suggested language. Please test the Facebook opt out instructions to ensure they also apply to your market; see if there is a “Facebook Ads Controls” link on its Privacy page.

  • Interest-Based Advertising:
On some pages of this site we may allow third-party advertising partners, to set web tracking and storage technology tools (e.g., cookies, web beacons, pixels) to collect or receive information regarding your activities on those web pages (e.g., your IP address, page(s) visited, time of day). These third parties may use this information (and combine it with information collected from other websites, apps or other digital services) for purposes of delivering future targeted advertisements to you when you interact with other (non-Ford) sites, mobile apps or digital services, and to provide measurement services. This practice is commonly referred to as "interest-based advertising".

  • Opting out of Interest-Based Advertising:
You may learn about how to opt-out of this kind of collection and use of information for your browser or device by managing your settings, and for your social media accounts by managing your preferences in your account settings.

  • Opting out from specific advertisers:

• In certain circumstances, we may need to use your personal information where we believe it necessary to comply with a legal obligation, to protect someone's safety or vital interests, or for purposes, which are in the public interest.

We may, where permitted by law, combine and, using automated decision making processes, analyze your Connected Vehicle Information with other information we hold about you, to assist with the purposes outlined above. This could include, for example, analyzing vehicle diagnostic information, conducting recalls, evaluating the effectiveness of our marketing and customer service, conducting market analysis and identifying products or services which may be of interest to you, and contacting you to tell you about those products and services.

In some limited circumstances, the automated decisions we take may have a legal or similar effect on you. We will only make these kinds of automated decisions about you where:

  • The decisions are necessary for performing or entering into a contract with you;
  • The decisions are authorized by law; or
  • You give your consent to us carrying out automated decision-making.

You can contact us to request further information about automated decision-making, and in some circumstances object to our use of automated decision-making, or request that an automated decision is reviewed by a human.
