Each drive mode adjusts parameters including four-wheel-drive mode, engine response, transmission settings, stability control, ABS sensitivity and traction control calibrations. The system even adjusts driver comfort features like the brake pedal feel and steering wheel sensitivity.

Drive modes are there to help you focus on the important part of driving: enjoying the experience of touring and exploring in your Expedition

Normal Drive Mode

Normal mode is intended for everyday driving, and it’s the mode your vehicle defaults to every time you switch it on. This mode is the perfect balance of excitement, comfort, and convenience. This is the default mode after each ignition cycle, and it is available in 4A, 2H, 4H and 4L.

Eco Drive Mode

Eco mode helps deliver maximum fuel efficiency and helps increase driving range. The default mode is 2H, with 4H and 4A also available. 4L is not available.

Sport Drive Mode

Sport mode is intended for spirited driving, offering improved performance handling and response. This mode increases accelerator pedal response and provides a sportier steering feel. The powertrain system holds onto lower gears longer, helping your vehicle accelerate faster.

Tow/Haul Drive Mode

This mode tailors transmission shifts to suit towing a trailer or heavy load by moving upshifts to higher engine speeds, reducing the number of times the transmission changes gear. It also provides engine braking in all forward gears which helps when descending a slope or steep road. All four-wheel drive modes are available.

Mud/Ruts Drive Mode

Mud/ruts mode enhances vehicle performance to drive across muddy, rutted, or uneven terrain. This is the mode to select if you’re driving on soft, deformable surfaces where you need to maintain momentum, while also using on demand wheel-spin to help clear muds or snow from your tyre tread. Default mode is 4H, 4L is available, traction control is switched off and the rear diff lock also engages automatically.

Sand Drive Mode

Select sand mode for off-road driving on soft, dry sand, deep gravel or deep snow. Power delivery is more aggressive and the system allows more wheel spin to achieve, maintain and increase momentum in the dunes.

Slippery Drive Mode

Slippery mode should be used for driving on a surface covered with ice, snow, heavy rain or some other slippery material that reduces available grip. This mode reduces throttle response and optimises gear shifting for slippery surfaces.

With Expedition’s powerful engines and core capabilities matched with its seven unique drive modes, you’re able to go further and do more than ever before
