- Mustang and Focus ST claim top honours in their respective segments, Mustang wins overall Jury Middle East Car of the Year
- Award wins, following titles for Fusion and EcoSport in 2014, highlight Ford’s continuous efforts to provide best-in-class vehicle
- The Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) is the biggest, most coveted award ceremony for the regional automotive industry
U.A.E. November 1, 2015 – Ford recently topped the charts in two different segments at the fifth Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) awards. An extensive panel of judges, comprising 12 expert automotive journalists from nine Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Levant countries, awarded Ford’s Mustang the “Best Sports Coupe” title for 2015, with Ford Focus ST claiming the “Best Performance Hatchback” award. The Mustang also won the coveted “Overall Middle East Car of the Year” Jury Award.
Powering the award-winning Mustang is a choice of three engines including the 5.0L V8, the 3.7L V6, as well as the 2.3L EcoBoost, the newest member of Ford’s global family of EcoBoost engines. The 2.3-litre engine leverages state-of-the-art technologies including direct fuel injection, twin independent variable camshaft timing and turbocharging to produce big-engine power and torque with improved fuel efficiency.
Also powered by a 2.0L EcoBoost engine, and featuring a sportier and more aggressive styling than the previous generation of the Focus ST, the latest model has a lower, wider stance, new dynamically sculpted front end, slimmer headlamps and rectangular fog lamps. The sports body kit also includes body-colour side skirts and diffuser elements either side of the exhaust, and a rear roof spoiler optimised for aerodynamic performance. Black lamp bezels, ST badging and 19-inch ST Design alloy wheels - available as an option – complete the Focus’ impressive looks.
“At Ford, we strive to build vehicles and technology that improve the lives of our customers, whether at work or play,” said Jim Benintende, president, Ford Middle East and Africa. “We are honored that automotive experts in the Middle East named the Focus ST and Mustang as best-in-class in 2015, and extremely proud of the fact that Mustang won the overall Middle East Car of the Year jury title. It’s a testament to the great cars, trucks and utilities we produce and the hard work of the incredible men and women that work at Ford.
